Outdoor kitchens built for Queensland weather
An outdoor kitchen turns the deck into the room you use most. We design alfresco kitchens with the materials to survive sun, humidity, salt air and summer storms.

What do you need for an outdoor kitchen?
A practical outdoor kitchen needs a built-in BBQ or grill, a weatherproof benchtop, cabinetry made from outdoor-rated materials, power for a fridge and lighting, and ideally a sink with water. In Queensland it should sit under a roof or pergola, with marine-grade stainless or compact laminate cabinetry and a UV-stable porcelain or stone benchtop.
What goes into an outdoor kitchen
We design outdoor kitchens as part of your alfresco space, with the same care as an indoor kitchen and materials chosen for the weather.
- Built-in BBQ with the correct gas connection, or a natural gas or LPG bottle enclosure
- Outdoor-rated cabinetry in marine-grade stainless, compact laminate or powder-coated aluminium
- UV-stable benchtops such as porcelain, sintered surfaces or granite
- Sink and tap with hot and cold water where plumbing allows
- Outdoor fridge, ice maker or bar fridge rated for higher ambient temperatures
- Lighting and weatherproof power installed by a licensed electrician

Outdoor kitchen materials
Outdoor kitchens fail when indoor materials are used outside. These are the materials we specify, and where each one works best.
| Material | Why it works outside | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 316 marine-grade stainless | Resists corrosion from salt air and humidity | The right choice near the coast. 304 grade can tea-stain within a few kilometres of the beach |
| Compact laminate | Solid, waterproof core with many colours and timber looks | Good UV resistance in covered areas, very low maintenance |
| Powder-coated aluminium | Light, rust-proof and available in custom colours | Needs a quality coating rated for coastal or high UV exposure |
| Porcelain benchtops | UV stable, heat and stain resistant | Will not fade or yellow in the sun and copes with hot pans from the grill |
Designing an alfresco kitchen for Queensland
Local conditions shape every decision we make, from materials to ventilation.
Shade and UV
Even under a roof, morning or afternoon sun reaches the bench. We specify UV-stable surfaces and fade-resistant finishes.
Salt air
Within a few kilometres of the coast, only marine-grade stainless and coated hardware will stay corrosion free.
Storms and drainage
Benches are set back from the drip line, with falls so water runs away from cabinetry after heavy rain.
Smoke and extraction
Under a roof, an outdoor-rated rangehood clears smoke and heat and keeps the ceiling clean.
Questions about outdoor kitchens

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Queensland?
The cost depends on length, materials, the BBQ and whether plumbing, gas and power need to be run. A simple bench with a built-in BBQ costs far less than a full alfresco kitchen with a sink, fridge, rangehood and stone benchtops. We provide an itemised quote after a site visit.
What is the best material for outdoor kitchen cabinets near the beach?
316 marine-grade stainless steel and compact laminate are the most durable choices in coastal areas of Queensland because they resist salt corrosion, moisture and UV.
Does an outdoor kitchen need to be covered?
It is strongly recommended. A roof or pergola protects appliances, cabinetry and the cook from sun and rain, and lets you use the space year round.
Can you connect my outdoor BBQ to natural gas?
Yes. A licensed gasfitter can run a natural gas line to a compatible BBQ or convert an appliance where the manufacturer allows it. Many homes use an LPG bottle housed in a ventilated enclosure instead.
Do I need approval for an outdoor kitchen?
The kitchen itself usually does not, but a new roof, deck or patio cover may need a building approval in Queensland. We can work with your builder or patio installer.
