Custom kitchen cabinetry, designed around how you cook

Flat-pack sizes leave gaps, dead corners and wasted height. Custom cabinetry is drawn and made to the millimetre for your room, your appliances and the things you actually store.

What is custom kitchen cabinetry?

Custom kitchen cabinetry is joinery designed and manufactured to the exact dimensions of your kitchen rather than chosen from fixed modular sizes. It lets every cabinet width, drawer depth and panel finish suit your space, appliances and storage needs, and it reaches ceiling height so no space is wasted.

What goes into a Restart cabinetry design

Good cabinetry design starts with an inventory of what you own and how you move between the fridge, sink and cooktop. We draw the layout first, then choose finishes.

  • Deep drawers over doors for pots, pans and everyday plates, so nothing hides at the back
  • Corner solutions such as blind-corner pull-outs and carousels in place of dead space
  • Integrated appliance housings for wall ovens, microwaves, fridges and dishwashers
  • Ceiling-height pantries and overheads with a step or lift-up doors for the top shelf
  • Soft-close hinges and runners from reputable European hardware makers
  • Bin, cleaning and tray storage placed where you actually need them

Cabinet door finishes compared

The door and panel finish sets both the look and the care routine. These are the finishes we recommend most often for Queensland homes.

FinishLookDurability and care
Polyurethane (2-pac)Seamless painted finish in any colour, matt to high gloss, shaker or flat profilesSmooth and easy to wipe. Can chip on hard impact but can be touched up or resprayed
Laminate and melamineHuge range of solid colours, woodgrains and textures at a lower priceVery hard-wearing and low maintenance. A strong choice for families and rentals
Timber veneerReal timber grain, including Australian species, on a stable coreWarm and natural. Needs UV-aware placement and a quality lacquer
ThermolaminateMoulded profiles such as shaker and routed doors without paintingBudget friendly. Keep clear of high heat from ovens without heat shields

Cabinetry that lasts in a humid climate

Local conditions shape every decision we make, from materials to ventilation.

Moisture-resistant carcasses

We use moisture-resistant board under sinks and around dishwashers, where steam and leaks swell standard particleboard.

Sealed edges

Every exposed edge is sealed with edge tape so humidity cannot get into the core of the panel.

Coastal hardware

Close to the beach, stainless and coated hardware resists the corrosion that salt air causes in standard fittings.

Ventilated appliance housings

Integrated fridges and ovens get the ventilation gaps their manufacturers specify, which matters more in Queensland heat.

Questions about custom cabinetry

Need a specific answer for your home? Call 1300 816 633.

How much do custom kitchen cabinets cost?

The price depends on the number of cabinets, the door finish, drawer quantity and hardware. Drawers cost more than doors and 2-pac polyurethane costs more than laminate. We price your exact design after a free measure, and complete kitchen renovations start from $24,995.

How long does custom cabinetry take to make?

Manufacture typically takes a few weeks after you sign off the final design and selections. Installation of the cabinetry itself usually takes a few days, followed by the benchtop template and fit.

Is custom cabinetry better than flat-pack?

Custom cabinetry uses the full height and width of the room, fits around bulkheads and uneven walls, and is built from heavier board with better hardware. Flat-pack can suit a tight budget or a laundry, but it rarely uses space as efficiently.

Can you match new cabinets to my existing kitchen?

Often, yes. We can match many laminate colours and paint finishes exactly. Timber and older finishes can be harder to match, so we will show you samples before you commit.

What is the best cabinet finish for a family kitchen?

Laminate and melamine are the most forgiving with kids, while 2-pac polyurethane gives a premium painted look and is still easy to clean. Many families mix the two, using laminate for lower cabinets and 2-pac on the island.
